Why there's no senior rate
Starlink prices by service area, not by customer type. In a given cell you pay the same $55, $85, or $130 per month whether you're 25 or 75. Any page claiming an exclusive senior code is guessing — or funnelling you to a referral link while pretending it's something else.
What actually lowers the cost
- The free referral month. Sign up through an active referral link and your first month of Residential service is free — and so is a month for the person who referred you. Here's mine.
- Regional hardware promotions. In many areas Starlink discounts the $349 Standard kit, occasionally to $0. It appears at checkout once you enter your address.
- The $10/month pause plan. If you want Starlink purely as backup for storms and outages, pause the service between uses. The hardware stays yours and ready.
Is Starlink practical for an older household?
In my experience, yes — the install is the part people worry about and it's the easy part. You plug in the router, set the dish somewhere with a clear view of the sky, and the phone app tells you if anything's blocking it. No technician visit, no appointment window, no drilling.
The bigger argument for it is resilience. After the hurricanes here, cable was out for weeks. Starlink ran off a generator and later off solar. If someone in the house depends on being reachable — medical alerts, family check-ins, prescriptions — that matters more than a few dollars of discount.
No contract, cancel anytime
